Elder Launches Winter Care Concerns National Survey to Tackle Elderly Isolation and Illness

London, UK – Elder, the UK’s leading care home care platform, has announced the launch of its Winter Care Concerns National Survey, aimed at capturing key insights about families’ anxieties as winter approaches and their elderly loved ones’ care needs.

With the record levels of flu hospitalizations and the significant impact of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) on older adults in the UK during the 2024-25 winter season, the NHS has estimated that 10% of excess winter deaths (EWD) can be attributed to fuel poverty and 21.5% to cold homes. Additionally, more than two million people in England over the age of 75 live alone, putting them at a higher risk of isolation, illness, and injury during the winter months.

Having facilitated over 15 million hours of home care, Elder’s survey will provide valuable insights that will inform care practices, shape policy advocacy, and better support older people to remain safe, warm, and connected in their own homes.

Pete Dowds, Founder and CEO of Elder, emphasized the survey’s importance in raising awareness about the challenges faced by older adults and their families during the winter season. He stated, “We hope this survey sparks a broader conversation about what winter truly feels like for families and their elderly loved ones, many of whom live alone and unassisted. It’s a reminder that keeping our elders warm, connected, and cared for takes a whole-community effort that extends far beyond the care sector.”

Families with elderly loved ones are invited to participate in the survey by clicking on the link provided on Elder’s website. The insights gathered from the survey will directly contribute to Elder’s advocacy efforts, research reports, and service improvements for winter care. All responses will remain anonymous.

This survey launch is not associated with any third-party organizations or websites. For more information, please visit Elder’s website.
