“UNESCO and WAN-IFRA Join Forces to Provide News Literacy Training and Workshop”

WAN-IFRA and UNESCO Partner to Deliver Trainings for Global Media and Information Literacy Week

Monday, November 10, 2025 – The World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) has announced a partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to provide three complimentary trainings in celebration of UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week. This annual event aims to raise awareness and celebrate the progress made towards promoting media and information literacy for all.

In a time of growing mistrust, misinformation, and media avoidance, it is crucial for newsrooms to have strategies in place to reinforce credibility, transparency, and civic value. Through this collaboration with UNESCO, WAN-IFRA will offer practical and high-impact training for news executives and editorial teams. These trainings will help news organizations make their journalistic processes more visible, foster more meaningful audience engagement, and build stronger public trust.

The trainings will take place on various dates and formats. The program includes two free online sessions and one in-person workshop, which will be held at WAN-IFRA’s upcoming Newsroom Summit in Copenhagen on November 18-19, 2025.

The first online session, titled “From Policy to Strategy: Building Your News Literacy Roadmap,” will take place on November 12, 2025, at 17:00 CET. This session will focus on how newsrooms can turn their good intentions into news-literacy strategies.

The in-person workshop, titled “Behind the Byline: Transparency and Truth in a Polarised Media Environment,” will be held on November 17, 2025, from 14:00 to 17:00 CET at the premises of JP Politiken in Copenhagen. This workshop is exclusively for attendees of the Newsroom Summit who wish to further their participation through a live and interactive session.

More information about the training sessions can be found on the WAN-IFRA website.

The trainings are designed for senior editors, newsroom executives, media policy and audience engagement leads, and attendees of the Newsroom Summit who are looking to deepen their understanding and implementation of news literacy initiatives.

To register for the online trainings, please visit the WAN-IFRA website and sign up in advance for the sessions on November 12 and 25. For those interested in attending the in-person workshop in Copenhagen, please email mediapolicy@wan-ifra.org to request access.
