Brighton, UK – RING Jewellers, a bespoke jewellery store in Brighton, has recently launched a new engagement ring that aims to be the greenest diamond ring in the world. The ring, named ‘Tierra’, is a result of the store’s commitment to ethical and environmentally responsible practices in the jewellery industry.
In today’s society, consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the impact their purchases make on the planet and are demanding more sustainable options. Unfortunately, the jewellery industry has a history of unethical practices, including the use of blood diamonds, unfair supply chains, and environmental damage. RING Jewellers is a store that is dedicated to changing this narrative with its ethical approach to bespoke jewellery.
The Tierra ring is the latest addition to RING Jewellers’ collection and is making waves for its green credentials. The ring features a laboratory-grown diamond, which is a more sustainable alternative to natural diamonds. Mining just 1.00ct of natural diamond involves moving around 250 tonnes of earth, often powered by fossil fuels. In contrast, the laboratory-grown diamond is created by extracting carbon from the air, which actually purifies the air and leaves it cleaner than before. This process also uses green energy, making the diamond carbon negative.
But it’s not just about the diamond – the gold used in the ring is 100% recycled, meaning no destructive digging, no mercury, no cyanide, and no exploitation of workers. This commitment to sustainability extends to the manufacturing process as well. The ring is designed in Brighton, the diamond is ‘mined’ from the sky in The Cotswolds, and the recycled gold is melted and cast in Birmingham. This significantly reduces the carbon footprint of the ring, as compared to traditional jewellery pieces that may travel thousands of miles before reaching the consumer.
Moreover, with every Tierra ring sold, RING Jewellers will plant 100 trees in partnership with the charity ‘One Tree Planted’. The charity works towards reversing the damage caused by deforestation and aims to make a positive impact on the planet.
The inspiration behind the name ‘Tierra’ comes from the Spanish word for ‘Earth’. The team at RING Jewellers wanted to pay homage to the planet and its natural resources, which are often exploited in the jewellery industry.
