The Friends of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs, an independent charity dedicated to preserving the National Park area’s unique characteristics, has expressed its delight at the recent developments regarding the Sloy pumped storage project near Tarbet on Loch Lomond. The project, spearheaded by Scottish and Southern, has successfully passed an important planning hurdle.
Duncan MacLachlan, a resident of Tarbet and one of the charity’s trustees, commented on the news saying, “We are pleased to see that the plans to transform the Sloy Power Station into a Pumped Storage facility have been approved by the National Park’s planning processes. While the Section 36 category of the application is yet to be evaluated, we are confident that the Scottish Government will grant approval. The project will not only contribute to the country’s ability to store excess solar and wind energy, but it will also provide stability to the national power distribution grid and enhance energy security. Additionally, the redevelopment will restore the iconic Modernist Classical building of the Sloy Power Station and bring much-needed economic benefits to the local community.”
