New Exhibition “Dura” by Ciarraí MacCormac to Launch in LA on Saturday 4 October, 2025
Belfast-based artist Ciarraí MacCormac will be showcasing her latest work in the upcoming exhibition “Dura” at the LA Art Gallery. The exhibition is set to launch on Saturday 4 October, 2025 from 7-9pm.
MacCormac’s paintings revolve around her unique approach to the materiality of paint, with a focus on what she calls “paint skins”. Her aim is to challenge traditional perceptions of materiality and explore the possibilities of how painting can exist. The paint skins in her work have a fluid and ever-changing quality, always in a state of transition and never fully captured. The process of reconfiguration and chance plays a significant role in her artistic practice.
Themes of care, intervention, and renewal are recurring in MacCormac’s work, reflecting her personal and artistic journey.
Born in Co Antrim, Northern Ireland, MacCormac currently resides in Belfast. She is a graduate of Bath School of Art and Design (2014) and was the first Freelands Studio Fellow for Belfast School of Art (2023-2024). MacCormac has also been the recipient of several awards, including being shortlisted for the BEEP Painting Biennial (2024), the AIR Open (2024), and long-listed for the British Contemporary Painting Prize (2024).
