EMD’s Retail Group welcomes Finland-based S Group in 2026

EMD strengthens position in Scandinavian retail markets with new member S Group

Pfäffikon, Switzerland – European Marketing Distribution (EMD) continues to solidify its position as a top international retail alliance with the addition of Finnish retailer S Group to its roster of members. The partnership, set to take effect in 2026, will see S Group joining EMD’s Retail Group which works closely with leading multinational A-brand manufacturers.

The Retail Group, which includes prominent retail companies from various countries such as Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and Poland, focuses on promoting and marketing highly sought-after top brand products to customers in the international retail market.

S Group, the largest cooperative in Finland, boasts a strong presence in the Finnish grocery retail market with over 1,000 stores under its three different formats: Prisma hypermarkets, S-market supermarkets, and Sale and Alepa convenience stores. The group also holds a leading position in other sectors including restaurants and hotels, petrol stations, and specialty stores.

Arttu Laine, COO and Executive Vice President of S Group, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stating, “We are delighted to join this unique group of retailers who work closely with the international A-brand industry. The cooperative and balanced approach adopted by EMD is in alignment with our vision of building and successfully continuing business with our industry partners.”

Philippe Gruyters, Managing Director of EMD, also expressed his satisfaction with the new addition, saying, “With such a prominent Finnish retailer like S Group, we can further expand our strong offering in the very dynamic Scandinavian market.”

The partnership between S Group and EMD is limited to the EMD Retail Group, with no involvement in the sourcing of Private Label products.

Founded in 1989, EMD is known in the consumer goods industry as an efficient and powerful partner for fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG). The alliance develops and procures sustainable private label concepts for the benefit of consumers, while also supporting global partnerships with leading brand manufacturers.

The current member companies of EMD, including associate member Lotte from South Korea, represent a combined external retail consumer turnover of approximately 200 billion euros in 16 countries. With the addition of new members in Poland and Finland, the network will expand to two main European markets in 2026.
