London & Ho Chi Minh City, July 29th, 2025 – A team of recent graduates from top universities in the United Kingdom has quietly developed the digital foundation for one of Asia’s fastest-growing airlines.
The London-based startup, Vividata, has partnered with Vietnam’s VietJet to create a customized operational data platform from the ground up. This innovative system streamlines, digitizes, and optimizes the airline’s entire approach to fleet management, maintenance, and daily operations.
According to Nguyen Thanh Son, Managing Director of VietJet, “The new operational platform will support our expansion into Europe in 2026.”
The platform was launched last week and is already being utilized by VietJet’s various departments. However, the true success of this project lies not just in the technology, but in the unique approach used to develop it. Instead of relying on global consulting firms, VietJet made a bold decision to work with a lean, agile team of British engineers who spent months splitting their time between Shoreditch and Saigon, collaborating closely with VietJet’s operational teams.
Barty Wardell, CEO of Vividata, believes that “there is significant value in building these platforms from scratch, not only to leverage new technology, but also to unlock measurable and lasting business value.”
One specific module on the new platform, a machine learning model that predicts aircraft part failures, addresses a notoriously difficult challenge in the aviation industry – forecasting unpredictable demand that can result in grounded planes or millions of dollars in excess inventory. This model was exclusively trained on VietJet’s proprietary maintenance data and achieved an impressive accuracy rate of 88%, automatically flagging potential stockouts by directly connecting with the airline’s inventory systems.
With recent announcements at the 2025 Paris Air Show for 100 A321neos and 20 A330neos, combined with existing orders for 200 Boeing 737 MAX jets, VietJet now holds one of the largest aircraft backlog pipelines in the global aviation market. The operational platform not only serves as a technical engine but also provides strategic control for this expansion.
