Top Polish retailers plan to join EMD, the premier buying and marketing group in Europe

EMD-Membership Brings New Sourcing Opportunities for Grupa Eurocash, Grupa Chorten, and Netto; Strong Presence in Poland Strengthens EMD’s International Market Position

Pfäffikon, Switzerland- European Marketing Distribution (EMD) AG, the leading European buying alliance, will soon welcome three new members from Poland: Grupa Eurocash, Grupa Chorten, and Netto. These three strong local retailers have announced their intention to establish a local joint-venture buying alliance and join EMD, subject to prior merger clearance.

This move will allow the new Polish members to increase their European sourcing capabilities and generate significant savings in their supply chain. These savings will be reinvested to strengthen their proposition to their customers.

The new EMD member, created by Grupa Eurocash, Grupa Chorten, and Netto, will become the most notable buying group in Poland. With a combined market presence of around 20,000 stores and an annual turnover of approximately over 12 billion Euro, they will rank as the #2 retail sales group in Poland.

Once the merger is cleared by the Polish competition authority and the Polish joint-venture company is established, the new members will join EMD’s joint sourcing of Private Label products and on-top services for international A-brand manufacturers in 2026.

Pawel Surowka, Eurocash’s Chief Executive Officer, expressed his enthusiasm for becoming a member of the EMD community. He stated, “We are extremely pleased to become a member of the strong and partnership-based EMD community. EMD offers us many product ranges and marketing instruments which will enable us to further accelerate our customer-oriented growth in the Polish market.”

This partnership also presents new opportunities for manufacturers operating in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry. EMD and its member companies focus on the procurement and marketing of successful private label products. In addition, EMD members united in the EMD Retail Group collaborate with leading multinational A-brand manufacturers to implement cross-border services and marketing concepts.

The Polish buying alliance will join the EMD Retail Group in 2026, subject to antimonopoly clearance. They will work with other prominent and successful retail companies in their respective home countries, including Euromadi Alfa Group from Spain, ESD Italia, Superunie from the Netherlands, RTG International, a German group of retailers, and retailer Axfood from Sweden.

Philippe Gruyters, Managing Director of EMD, commented on the new membership of the Polish buying alliance. He said, “The new EMD membership of the Polish buying alliance opens up new sourcing opportunities for it and our existing members. With the Polish buying alliance joining our international on-top business, we can further expand our strong offering in the very dynamic Polish market.”
