Youth Employment Crisis Sparks Launch of AI Job Tool by Gen Z Founder and Former Hays CEO

Last Updated on:

As new graduates enter one of the most challenging job markets in years, an innovative career platform called Hunch has launched, offering young people AI-powered support in landing meaningful employment.

The platform is the brainchild of Sally Wynter, a young founder who previously created and exited the world’s first CBD gin business. Developed in collaboration with Alistair Cox, ex-CEO of FTSE-listed recruitment firm Hays, Hunch seeks to address the growing anxiety and difficulty faced by today’s youth as they try to start their careers.

With close to a million young adults in the UK classified as NEET and hundreds of thousands graduating with debts often exceeding £50,000, the need for targeted support has never been more urgent.

“Graduates tell us they’re googling brands they’ve seen on bus stops just to find somewhere to apply,” said Wynter. “Others are deleting their degrees from their CVs to get a look in at warehouse roles. We’re in a crisis – and it’s not just about jobs, it’s about dignity.”

Hunch offers a modern job search experience using swipe-based browsing, CV and cover letter tools, and AI-powered career coaching, all designed to help young users:

Connect with roles that suit their background and aspirations

Craft standout job applications

Keep on top of their job search process

In particular, the platform addresses what many lack: knowledge of the “hidden curriculum” – how to navigate unspoken job-hunting rules, write CVs that beat ATS filters, and present themselves with clarity and confidence.

Working with Dr Meg Jay, renowned psychologist and author of The Defining Decade, the Hunch team is training the AI to deliver emotional and motivational support to users with limited connections or mentorship options.

Alistair Cox added: “After decades in recruitment, one thing has always struck me – how little support there is for people starting out. Hunch builds human judgment at scale, helping people understand themselves, find good jobs, and succeed. That matters – for individuals and for society.”

Driven by her own early experiences of being left to figure out the job world alone, Wynter has made it her mission to empower others: “I had to figure everything out alone. I don’t want that for the next generation. Hunch isn’t about throwing more content at people – it’s about guiding them, showing them where to look, and helping them to actually get the job.”

Hunch is now available to users throughout the UK at: www.askhunch.com
