Coastline Housing, a social landlord in Cornwall, has recently expanded its housing portfolio by taking on seven additional homes in Ruan Minor and Blunts, thanks to a new agreement with Cornwall Community Land Trust.
This agreement is part of a larger strategy to support Cornwall Community Land Trust in its efforts to provide more affordable housing options for local residents in the future.
Six of the properties are located in Ruan Minor, on The Lizard, while the remaining home is located in Blunts, near Saltash. These properties were previously managed by a landlord in Devon, causing challenges for the tenants due to the geographical distance. Upon being approached for assistance, Coastline Housing was happy to purchase and manage these properties, much to the delight of the previous landlord.
“We are pleased to welcome these new residents to the Coastline family,” said Stuart Blackie, Head of Housing Services at Coastline. “As we solely operate in Cornwall, we were in a great position to improve the living conditions for these customers. We have been working diligently to get to know our new residents, providing them with new tenancy agreements, welcome packs, and more.”
Proceeds from the sale of these homes will be used by Cornwall Community Land Trust to continue its efforts in developing more affordable housing options within the county for the benefit of local residents.
Dominic Fairman, Chair of Cornwall Community Land Trust, expressed his satisfaction with the new arrangement, stating, “Cornwall Community Land Trust is pleased to have found a new, sustainable landlord for our tenants in Ruan Minor and Saltash. The management of social housing is highly regulated, and as a small charity, we were dependent on third-party contracts to manage these properties, which was not ideal for us or our tenants. The fact that Coastline is a Cornwall-based organization that shares our values and mission makes them the perfect fit to take on the long-term responsibility for these homes and ensure they remain available for the benefit of their local communities.”
Coastline Housing recently launched its new Coastline Plan for 2025-2030, aiming to build 300 to 350 new affordable homes each year to help address the housing crisis in Cornwall.
“Our focus may currently be on larger developments in Cornwall, but we are equally committed to working with small, rural communities across the county to meet their affordable housing needs,” stated Nathan Mallows, Director of Finance, People and Change. “Collaboration is a crucial aspect of our mission to solve the housing crisis in Cornwall, and by leveraging our management skills and financial capacity, we are able to support Cornwall Community Land Trust in bringing forward more viable affordable housing schemes. It’s a win-win situation for all involved.”
