PlanetWEST, a pioneering environmental technology firm, announced the launch of its innovative carbon capture system, MIDAC G2 (Mobile Intelligent Direct Air Capture – Pat.Pend.) on Thursday 29 January, 2026. The company, based in Los Angeles, has engineered this system specifically to address the disproportionate contribution of megacities to global warming.
Megacities, such as Shanghai, New York City, and Tokyo, are responsible for an estimated 70% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In fact, just 25 megacities account for 52% of the world’s GHG. This is due to rapid urbanization and the resulting high concentrations of harmful particulate matter, including Black Carbon.
According to a spokesperson for PlanetWEST, “The air quality crisis in many of our global cities demands innovative and scalable solutions. Megacities present unique challenges for traditional climate mitigation, such as limited footprint for renewable energy. MIDAC G2 is designed to be cost-efficient and operate throughout all parts of the city, empowering local governments to take immediate, effective control of their air quality and climate footprint.”
MIDAC G2 is a revolutionary system for localized air purification, uniquely engineered to integrate with existing vehicular radiator systems. It actively draws in ambient air, absorbing microscopic and larger solid particles, including hazardous Black Carbon. These particulates are processed and then safely stored for efficient offloading and responsible disposal or recycling.
The system’s most radical feature is its strategic focus on solid carbon-based particulate matter, primarily Black Carbon (BC), rather than just gaseous emissions. Capturing these particles delivers a much faster and more powerful climate benefit. Additionally, particulate matter is highly concentrated in urban pollution hotspots, providing more targeted and energy-efficient opportunities for capture and mitigation. By directly capturing pollutants, MIDAC G2 aims to create cleaner and cooler micro-environments, contributing to better public health outcomes and supporting urban climate resilience.
