Dortmund, Germany – On Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, Thyssengas GmbH announced the appointment of Dr. Stefanie Kesting as their new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Dr. Kesting will be taking over for current CEO, Dr. Thomas Gößmann, who will retire at the end of February after nearly nine years with the company. The transition in leadership was first announced in the fall of 2025.
Thyssengas is facing a significant turning point in its history, as the company looks to incorporate more renewable gases, such as hydrogen, into its transmission network. This shift is part of Thyssengas’ larger goal to establish a new energy market. With this in mind, Dr. Kesting, a 49-year-old energy manager, is taking the reins as CEO.
“In the coming years, the success of our transformation and the establishment of a new form of resilience in energy supply will be determined,” says Dr. Kesting. “As a transmission system operator, we have a special responsibility. We create the gas infrastructure that is necessary for industry, SMEs, and regions to move towards a secure and climate-neutral future. At the same time, we bring our experience, regional network, and close ties to our western neighbors to actively shape this transition. Building a hydrogen core network is a crucial step, but we must also think holistically, considering regional and cross-sector solutions that meet the needs of our customers and partners for a secure energy supply and their individual decarbonization paths. I am excited to work with the strong Thyssengas team to drive this process forward.”
Dr. Kesting brings years of leadership experience in the energy sector to her new role, having previously held positions at international energy companies such as DNV, E.ON, and Uniper. Most recently, she served as the Managing Director responsible for the Energy Project Solutions business unit at plant manufacturer Neuman & Esser. Her professional focus has been on renewable gases, hydrogen, and CO₂ technologies for many years. She also currently serves on several international supervisory boards in the energy and industrial sectors.
With Dr. Kesting’s appointment, the Thyssengas management board will temporarily consist of three members:
– Dr. Stefanie Kesting, Chief Executive Officer
– Dr. Thomas Becker, Chief Financial Officer
– Dr. Thomas Gößmann, Member of the Management Board
As of March 1st, 2026, the management board will be comprised of Dr. Stefanie Kesting (CEO) and Dr. Thomas Becker (CFO).

In line with their focus on a climate-neutral future, Thyssengas is investing in converting their pipeline system to accommodate a rapid hydrogen ramp-up as part of the energy transition. They currently employ around 550 people at eight locations within their network area.
