Colin’s Sash Windows, a leading supplier of uPVC sash windows and doors, has recently conducted a successful overseas installation in Jamaica, showcasing the strength and durability of their products in extreme weather conditions.
The installation, which took place several years ago, involved the use of British-made Spectus uPVC sash windows in a new residential build. Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm with winds up to 160mph, served as the ultimate test for the windows.
After the storm, the homeowner confirmed that all uPVC sash windows remained fully intact, with no visible damage to frames or glazing. This is in stark contrast to the accompanying uPVC French doors installed on the same property, which sustained damage from extreme wind pressure and flying debris.
“We are proud to see our sash windows withstand such challenging conditions,” said Colin Greenslade, founder of Colin’s Sash Windows. “While they have been laboratory tested in winds up to 140mph, this real-world test truly showcases the strength and resilience of the Spectus system.”
While the project was based overseas, the results have significant implications for UK homeowners, architects, and specifiers. With changing weather patterns around the world, the importance of resilience and durability in window design is becoming increasingly evident.
Colin’s Sash Windows continues to supply and export bespoke window and door packages to international markets, using the lessons learned from real-world installations to improve the long-term performance of their products.
Founded in 2014, Colin’s Sash Windows offers a range of high-quality uPVC sash windows, casement windows, aluminium and steel heritage doors, and FD30 fire-rated internal steel doors. The company serves customers across the UK, Ireland, and selected overseas markets, combining traditional British design with modern manufacturing standards.
