“Meet the Tiniest Contender in the Laser Power Transmission Competition”

This revolutionary technology has the ability to convert optical energy from laser beams into electrical energy, providing a wireless solution for powering devices. The news of Prime Movr’s Laser Power Transmission comes at a time when large entities have been making headlines for their own laser power transfer projects. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has a program in place to beam power over long distances, while Star Catcher Industries is working on building an orbital power grid to transmit energy to satellites and lunar vehicles. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries has also made strides in this field, recently partnering with NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone) and successfully conducting experiments to transmit laser power over a kilometre.

Despite these impressive achievements, Prime Movr’s system stands out for its potential to enable a wide range of smaller wireless applications. Co-founder Parvez Rishi believes that there is a significant opportunity for startups in this field, stating, “This technology holds a lot of promise for applications such as charging remote sensors and outdoor cameras, where a tethered charging system is not practical.”

In addition to the Laser Power Transmission technology, the founders of Prime Movr are also developing a similar wireless solution using radio frequency (RF) in collaboration with the University of Kashmir’s Institute of Technology. While progress is being made in this area, the team recognizes the unique advantages of laser technology, including higher energy density and more precise targeting. This makes the technology particularly suitable for powering remote, mobile, and hard-to-reach electronic systems where traditional wired or inductive charging solutions are not feasible. The laser power transmission technology can be leveraged to power a variety of applications, such as remote sensors, outdoor camera systems, and other autonomous systems.
