Students around the world are being invited to take part in the “Refill, Not Landfill!” creativity campaign, aimed at tackling the pressing issue of plastic pollution. The campaign, launched by the REUSE Foundation on Saturday 22 November 2025, challenges young people aged 16-25 to use their creativity to educate others about the failures of plastic recycling and the importance of moving beyond single-use plastics.
“Refill, Not Landfill!” is a social media-based competition that encourages participants to create short videos, memes, or carousels that inspire and educate others about the benefits of reusing and refilling instead of relying on single-use plastics. The competition is open to individuals or teams worldwide and is free to enter.
To participate, entrants must create a post that includes the “Refill, Not Landfill!” logo provided by the REUSE Foundation and a clear call to action to motivate others to join in and rethink their consumption habits. The post must also include reputable sources if presenting facts or statistics and must be tagged with the REUSE Foundation’s social media handles and hashtags.
The campaign window will run from 22 November 2025 to 30 June 2026, with winners being announced on or before 30 July 2026. The total prize money of at least £1,000, funded by the REUSE Foundation, will be split between the first, second, and third-place winners, with the potential to increase depending on donations. The judging criteria will focus on creativity and originality, clarity of message, and potential for impact and engagement.
The urgency of addressing single-use plastics cannot be ignored, and the REUSE Foundation is empowering young people to take action through campaigns like “Refill, Not Landfill!” As they highlight, recycling alone is not enough, and most plastic still ends up in landfills or incinerated. Through this competition, the foundation is harnessing the power of youth creativity to raise awareness and accelerate the shift towards reusing and refilling.
The UK-based registered charity, REUSE Foundation, is behind the “Refill, Not Landfill!” campaign. The foundation’s focus is on promoting practical and scalable solutions to reduce plastic waste through reuse. They support innovation, community projects, and policy change, and “Refill, Not Landfill!” is their latest effort to mobilize youth around this crucial issue. In addition to “Refill, Not Landfill!”, the REUSE Foundation’s current programs include Sponsor a Village, which aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of reuse in low-income communities in India, and Bottles for Good, which works with refill stores in the UK to encourage reusable packaging. The foundation has also recently published “Where Now For Plastic Packaging?” and plans to release a report in November 2025 based on the first global survey of businesses focusing on reuse.
