Fujitsu and Kawasaki Frontale Pioneer Japan’s First Global Sports for Nature Framework Agreement

On Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025, Fujitsu Limited and professional football club Kawasaki Frontale Co., Ltd. announced their joint participation in the “Sports for Nature” Framework. This initiative, led by the International Union for Conservation of Nature, International Olympic Committee, United Nations Environment Programme, Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy, aims to promote nature conservation through sports by 2030 and beyond.

Fujitsu’s American football team, Fujitsu Frontiers, women’s basketball team, Fujitsu Red Wave, and the football team itself have become the first sports teams in Japan to join this framework. Through their efforts, the Fujitsu Group hopes to educate sports fans in Japan about the importance of environmental protection and inspire individual behavioral change.

The four principles of the Sports for Nature initiative include protecting and avoiding damage to natural habitats and species, restoring and regenerating nature, understanding and reducing risks to nature in supply chains, and educating and inspiring positive action for nature. By committing to these principles, the three Fujitsu group sports teams will work towards increasing positive impacts on biodiversity. This includes clothing recycling for effective resource utilization, waste reduction at home games, and cleaning activities with fans and supporters to improve river water quality.

These efforts align with Fujitsu’s vision to become a “technology company that realizes net positive through digital services” by 2030 and the company’s materiality area of coexistence with nature (biodiversity conservation). This involves halting and reversing nature loss by 2030 and achieving full recovery by 2050, in line with the mission of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Additionally, “Sports” has been set as a new materiality area from fiscal year 2025, highlighting the company’s commitment to promoting sports, strengthening ties with local communities, and enhancing corporate image and employee engagement.

The three Fujitsu group sports teams that have joined the Sports for Nature initiative on October 15th are top teams and top athletes in their respective sports, bringing shared excitement and positive impact to regional communities. However, their activities can also have a negative impact on the environment, which is why they have committed to implementing sustainable practices and promoting biodiversity conservation.

The Fujitsu Group’s participation in the Sports for Nature Framework showcases their dedication to addressing global environmental issues and promoting coexistence with nature. It is a significant step towards creating a more sustainable future through the power of sports.
