“Gerrards Cross Memorial Centre Celebrates Summer Successes and Historic Restorations”

Gerrards Cross, UK – The summer of 2025 at Gerrards Cross Memorial Centre was one to remember. The sun shone, the community came together, and behind the scenes, the GXCA team worked tirelessly to improve facilities and host much-loved events.

Among the accomplishments this summer, the car park has undergone vital patch-up works, with a full resurfacing planned for the future as funds allow. In addition, the World War I Memorial Building, commissioned in 1926 by Sir Edwin Lutyens, has been revitalised. The elegant space is now home to The Move Room GX, Kiran Deol Tailoring, Sculpt Pilates studio, and the newly restored GXCA Snooker Club. Thanks to the generous donation of a 1920s Burroughes & Watts snooker table, the club will officially launch on 21 November 2025.

The summer was also marked by a strong sense of community spirit, with various events bringing the best of Gerrards Cross together. From a lively VE Day Lunch and popular Open Mic Night to the Classic Car Show and the return of the Gerrards Cross Summer Fair, the GXCA has been a hub of activity. The annual Jumble Sale, held in September, mobilised over 140 volunteers and raised more than £15,000 for the Association. The support of Gerrards Cross Town Council has been essential in strengthening the role of GXCA as the beating heart of the community.

Looking ahead, the coming months promise even more excitement, with events such as the Diwali Celebration on 24 October, the Family Fireworks Night on 2 November, and Santa’s Secret Grotto from 13-24 December. The latter, a ten-day festive event, is being brought to life by award-winning production designer Sonja Klaus. With a decade of experience as Artistic Director of Lapland UK, Sonja is now bringing her world-class vision to Gerrards Cross with enchanting encounters with Santa’s helpers, a candy cane treasure hunt, hot chocolate, letter-writing to Santa, gifts, and more.

In addition to events, the GXCA is also home to a variety of clubs and societies, including the Sailors Association and Art Appreciation. New groups, such as Table Tennis and Gerrards Cross Primary School PTA “Morning Mingles,” are joining the fold, ensuring a constant flow of fresh faces and ideas into the Centre.

Marcia Bell, Chairman of the Executive Committee, shared her thoughts on the Centre, saying, “This is the essence of GXCA: a place where history, community, and creativity meet. Whether you come to learn, play, celebrate, or simply connect, the Memorial Centre remains the true heart of Gerrards Cross.”
