Solicitor Chris Dias has introduced Legalaid Ltd, a pioneering company created to reshape the use of artificial intelligence within legal services.
Operating as Legal Artificial Intelligence Development (Legalaid) Ltd, the firm’s mission is to build simple, effective AI-powered applications that streamline routine legal work and enhance the client experience. This launch signals a meaningful advancement in the adoption of technology across the legal sector.
Legalaid Ltd’s first beta project, ukinnovator.online, features a custom-built algorithm designed to harness AI’s analytical strengths. The platform provides early-stage assessments of business concepts for Innovators aiming to establish ventures in the UK under the Home Office’s Innovator Founder route.
Positioned as a preliminary assessment tool, it does not replace qualified legal advice. Instead, it demonstrates how AI can assist solicitors in creating new ways to serve their clients. To maintain ease of use, the service offers both a brief five-minute review and a more detailed twenty-minute option, each available free of charge.
Chris, the founder, shared his inspiration for establishing Legalaid Ltd: “Since generative AI emerged, I’ve been exploring ways to address inefficiencies in legal practice to better serve clients at my firm, Lawyery. I firmly believe that AI’s potential to drive meaningful change in the legal sector should be a grassroots movement, led by practitioners rather than corporate giants. Legalaid Ltd is my commitment to empowering solicitors to revolutionise the legal landscape, one innovative application at a time.”
On the purpose of ukinnovator.online, Chris commented: “I’ve seen a growing number of enquiries from potential Innovators who are uncertain about whether their business ideas meet the criteria for the UK’s Innovator Founder scheme. The endorsement application process costs applicants £1,000, so I recognised the need for a preliminary assessment tool. This platform is a free, user-friendly resource designed to help Innovators understand key elements of the assessment process before investing in legal consultations. Accessibility is paramount, and I believe AI tools should be freely available to end users, aligning with modern expectations.”
The platform’s beta version is now live, inviting feedback to refine its functionality and expand its capabilities.
Chris’s vision extends beyond this initial launch. He plans to develop further AI-driven tools under the Legalaid Ltd banner, each addressing specific challenges in legal practice. “Our goal is to empower solicitors with practical, accessible technology that enhances their ability to deliver results,” Chris said. “This is just the beginning.”
The company aims to build a suite of applications that address diverse aspects of legal work, from case management to client onboarding, all powered by AI to improve efficiency and accuracy.
