Global Health Organization Calls on New UK Foreign Secretary to Prioritize Innovation in International Aid for Pharmacy

CPA Welcomes New Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs, Urges Collaboration for Effective Aid Programs

LONDON, UK – The Commonwealth Pharmacists Association (CPA), as the current Chair of the Commonwealth Health Professions and Partnerships Alliance (CHPA), extends a warm welcome to The Rt. Hon. Yvette Cooper MP on her appointment as the new Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs. CPA also takes this opportunity to pay tribute to The Rt. Hon. David Lammy MP for his dedicated service in the role.

As an organisation that has been at the forefront of implementing high impact, budget-friendly, and sustainable global health development schemes in Africa and Asia, with the generous support of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for the past five years, CPA urges the new Secretary of State to engage with organisations like ours to explore new models for delivering international aid programs amidst current financial pressures.

CPA firmly believes that programs that focus on enhancing workforce capability, developing skills and expertise of professionals, and increasing access to essential healthcare resources, such as preventative medicines, can have a significant impact on global health outcomes at a much lower cost than traditional aid programs. In this regard, CPA continues to lead the way in delivering impactful, innovative, and cost-effective work in this space.

We call upon the new Foreign Secretary to collaborate with key stakeholders to explore how the UK’s Official Development Assistant schemes can continue to save lives – both directly around the world and indirectly in the UK by mitigating the spread of infectious diseases and epidemics that transcend national borders – despite the fiscal challenges faced by the Government.
