Co-founder of Charity Bikes Length of Britain to Benefit Cancer Patients

Alison Hitchcock, co-founder of the national cancer support charity From Me to You, and her friend Siobhan McFeely, are embarking on a 1,000-mile cycling journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats in just 21 days. The goal of this challenging ride is to raise funds for the charity that Hitchcock helped set up in 2017.

From Me to You encourages people to write handwritten letters to those living with cancer, whether it be to friends or strangers through the charity’s Donate A Letter program. This simple act of communication can make a huge difference to cancer patients who often feel isolated during their diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. Every year, the charity distributes over 10,000 letters across the UK.

Hitchcock and McFeely, both based in Dorset, are taking on this daunting challenge despite neither of them having attempted a ride of this scale before. Their route will take them through 22 counties and past numerous cancer centers and hospitals that are supported by the charity.

“We are both slightly terrified about what lies ahead,” says co-founder Hitchcock. “The training has been a full-time job in itself, and we have experienced exhaustion and pain from the relentless cycling. However, the thought of brightening the days of cancer patients through our letters will keep us going when the going gets tough.”

The ride is not just about raising funds, but also about promoting connection, courage, and doing something meaningful for those who need support. “In comparison to fighting cancer, this is nothing,” adds Hitchcock.

Supporters can donate to the campaign through the duo’s Just Giving page and follow their journey on the charity’s social media pages. Those interested in receiving a letter from the charity during their own cancer journey, or would like to write for the Donate A Letter program can find more information on the charity’s website.

Let the countdown begin for this incredible cause and the amazing feat that Hitchcock and McFeely are about to embark on. 1,000 miles, 22 counties, two women, one inspiring cause.
