Independent chutney brand Mama Sood’s is celebrating a double triumph at this year’s Great Taste Awards, securing two prestigious stars in a major achievement for the family business.
The brand’s Date & Tamarind and Tomato & Pineapple chutneys both earned Great Taste stars, setting them apart in blind taste testing conducted by an expert judging panel.
Judges praised the Date & Tamarind chutney for its “unexpected flavour journey of sweet, sour, and then heat.” Described as “dark and glossy” with “curry flavours and some spicy heat,” they highlighted how the tamarind “compliments the dates and it lingers beautifully on the tongue.” Several judges also noted its versatility, suggesting it could be used “as a marinade or glaze” as well as a table condiment.
The Tomato & Pineapple chutney also impressed, with judges calling it “well presented” and admiring its “rich tomato colour packed with pieces of fruit.” They highlighted its “inviting pineapple aroma,” praised the “plump and juicy” raisins, and celebrated its “well-balanced” seasoning.
Launched just two years ago, Mama Sood’s has rapidly built a loyal following by showcasing its small-batch, vegan-friendly chutneys at artisan markets across the UK. Each recipe is crafted using natural ingredients, inspired by authentic family traditions and the brand’s Indian heritage.
