EIGHTEEN IMPRESSIVE INDIVIDUALS AWARDED AT ANJOOL MALDE AWARDS 2025
London, UK – On Friday, July 25th 2025, the Anjool Malde Awards ceremony was held to recognize and celebrate the achievements of young individuals in the UK. The Awards were set up in 2010 as a legacy to Anjool Maldé, known as Jools to his friends, who passed away in 2009. The Trust makes annual awards across six categories, with prize money given to the most talented young individuals who have shown a special edge in their achievements. The Awards aim to encourage all young individuals to ‘do well, do good’ in their lives and careers.
The event was attended by esteemed guests and representatives from various organizations, including the Royal Society of Arts (RSA), the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD), Edinburgh Napier University, St Peter’s College, Oxford, and the Localgiving Foundation. The winners were chosen by a panel of expert judges in each category.
INNOVATION & ENTERPRISE CATEGORY – Anjool Maldé Young Innovator Award (Hosts: RSA)
The winner of the Anjool Maldé Young Innovator Award was Casta Schaebbicke for her submission, Biotherm. The runner-ups were Hanna Cox, Charlotte Carla, and Diana Jorge for their submission, Hot Air Company. The RSA partnership statement expressed their pride in working with the Anjool Maldé Memorial Trust and congratulated the winners on their outstanding achievements.
Schaebbicke’s winning submission, Biotherm, is a sustainable insulation solution that uses Phase Change Materials (PCMs) made from waste streams such as used cooking oil, paraffin, and beeswax. The RSA’s Expert Review Panel praised the solution for its scientific insight, practical design, and its potential to tackle fuel poverty and climate change using waste-derived materials.
The Hot Air Company, the runner-up, has developed a system that turns residual data centre heat into revenue by powering modular bioreactor units used in biotech. The Expert Review Panel commended the team for their innovative approach to turning waste heat into power and their integration of climate, technology, and entrepreneurship.
JOURNALISM CATEGORY – Anjool Maldé Journalism Award (Hosts: Film & Broadcast Production QUB, Belfast)
The winners of the Anjool Maldé Journalism Award were Oisín-Thomás Reilly, Jonathan Braniff, Kat Mrozek, Marc Graham, Michael McChrystal, and Ryan Martin for their documentary, ‘Beyond Words.’ The judges praised the film for its exploration of the creative journeys of two artists with disabilities and how art and music can transcend barriers and challenge societal prejudices.
MUSIC CATEGORY – Anjool Maldé Jazz Prize (Hosts: Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Cardiff – RWCMD)
Cameron Saint was awarded the Anjool Maldé Jazz Prize for his outstanding talent in Jazz and Double Bass. The judges commended Saint for his energy, positivity, and pro-action, making him a key part of any band he is a part of. Saint will use the prize money to fund his Master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
PHOTOGRAPHY CATEGORY – Anjool Maldé Photography Award (Hosts: Edinburgh Napier University, Scotland)
Levente Hegedus was recognized as the Anjool Maldé Young Photographer of the Year for his portfolio, Haza. The judges praised Hegedus for his documentary project, which explores the cultural and political divisions within contemporary Hungary through photographs taken in various urban and rural settings.
SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORY – Anjool Maldé Scholarship (Hosts: St Peter’s College, Oxford)
Five students from St Peter’s College, Oxford, were awarded the Anjool Maldé Scholarship for their outstanding academic achievements and contributions to the college community. The scholarship aims to boost the confidence of some of the college’s finest students and provide them with much-needed material support.
SOCIAL ENTERPRISE CATEGORY – Anjool Maldé Young Social Entrepreneur Award (Sponsor: Tom Latchford, Founder/Chair Localgiving Foundation)
Colette Batten-Turner was awarded the Anjool Maldé Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year for her social enterprise, Conversations over Borders. The organization provides practical and psychological support to LGBTQIA+ asylum seekers, women, and non-binary people. The judges praised Batten-Turner and her team for their important work in building a more inclusive and welcoming society.
In closing, Professor Ken Eason, a renowned expert on socio-technical system design, praised and congratulated all the winners for their inspiring work. He also thanked the supporters, helpers, sponsors, and judges for their contribution to the Trust
