Legacy Youth Zone in Croydon has recently announced that their M R Scaffolding and I See Apps Golf Day, held on June 25, 2025 at The Addington Golf Course, was a tremendous success with a total of £55,937 raised to support their work with young people.
The event, organized in collaboration with Trustees Indy Chatwal and John Trayfoot, brought together supporters, businesses, and friends of Legacy Youth Zone for a day of golf, entertainment, and fundraising. The main objective of the event was to enrich the lives of young people in the local community.
A highlight of the day was the generous £20,000 match fund donation from Ryan Noades, Managing Director of The Addington Golf Club, which significantly contributed to the overall success of the event. Attendees were also treated to an uplifting performance and motivational speech by proud advocate of the charity, Levi Roots, as well as powerful speeches from two Legacy Youth Zone members. The event also included a high-energy auction with exciting items up for bid. Levi Roots, who recently mentioned his excitement to be involved with Legacy Youth Zone in an Instagram Reel, was joined by Jason Perry, Mayor of Croydon.
Legacy Youth Zone is part of the national OnSide Network of Youth Zones, providing a safe and inspiring space for young people aged 8-19 (or up to 25 with additional needs). With an annual membership fee of just £5 and a visit fee of 50p, members have access to a wide range of activities such as a gym, recording studio, cookery room, and art spaces, all within a supportive and inclusive environment.
As a charity, over 85% of Legacy Youth Zone’s funding comes from generous donations including corporate sponsors, private sector and philanthropic giving, making events like this not only fun, but essential. By sponsoring holes, donating auction prizes, and bidding generously in the auction, over 100 guests at the Golf Day played a direct role in keeping Legacy Youth Zone’s doors open and its resources running for thousands of young people.
Indy Chatwal, Trustee of Legacy Youth Zone, stated, “This day was about more than just golf. It was about giving back to the young people of Croydon. We’re blown away by the generosity shown, and we’re already looking forward to doing it again in 2026.”
Fellow Trustee, John Trayfoot, also added, “Legacy Youth Zone is a lifeline for many young people. To see so many people come together to support our mission was incredibly moving.”
The funds raised from the Golf Day will go directly towards sustaining Legacy’s programmes, maintaining its facilities, and continuing to provide young people in Croydon with the support, inspiration and safe space that they deserve. With operating costs of around £1.5M per year, essential fundraising is crucial for a sustainable future for the charity.
