Eco Sash & Case, a well-respected family business based in Edinburgh, has invested in state-of-the-art window manufacturing equipment to support the creation of complex arched and shaped sash and case windows. This upgrade significantly boosts the company’s production capabilities for clients across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Borders, and Fife.
Thanks to the newly installed machinery, the company can now meet demand for more intricate designs, particularly suited to listed buildings and historic homes. Eco Sash & Case works with a variety of clients, including developers, builders, architects, and private homeowners.
Recent projects have included notable developments for The Balmoral Hotel, Gleneagles, Cala Homes, and Silverburn Flaxmill.
Preserving Tradition with a Sustainable Focus
In keeping with its environmental ethos, Eco Sash & Case places strong emphasis on refurbishing original timber windows wherever possible. When replacements are required, the team manufactures new units from sustainably sourced timber, enhancing performance through energy-efficient glazing and draught-proofing. A Scots Pine is planted for every completed project via Trees for Life.
“Before our recent investment in window manufacturing machinery, we used traditional tools such as spindle moulders, band saws and four-sided planers,” said Jordan Davidson, Managing Director of Eco Sash & Case.
“We still use these tools but now run most of the windows through our sophisticated CNC machine – this improves the quality of cuts and profiles. It’s also safer, more energy efficient, produces less waste and creates more precise fitting windows.
“Our investment has allowed us to double our manufacturing capabilities and produce very complex, intricate styles of windows more quickly and at a very high quality.
“We can now create curved, shaped and arched bespoke timber windows of the highest quality. So, our new HOMAG 5 axis CNC manufacturing machine allows us to create very precise wooden sash and casement windows for Edinburgh and the Lothian’s many heritage buildings.
“We chose the HOMAG 5 CNC router after carrying out in depth research. HOMAG is well known for being the global leader for state-of-the-art machinery for manufacturing complex wood processing.”
The HOMAG 5 axis CNC router, with its full 360° operational range, offers precision craftsmanship for uniquely shaped timber doors and windows. Alongside their Prodim digital templating system, the Eco Sash team can now accurately trace and replicate non-standard window shapes to an exceptional degree.
This high-performance equipment consumes less energy than traditional machines and enhances joiner safety on the workshop floor — key considerations for the environmentally responsible firm.
Jordan Davidson added: “We worked with HOMAG’s Scottish distributor AWMS who made every effort to get to know us as a business. Their director Rob Herron has been very helpful.
“He clearly knows the machinery inside out – during his visits to our new workshop on the south side of Edinburgh, he spent a considerable amount of time exploring our needs. He wanted to ensure we were getting the right machine, and that’s exactly what we’ve ended up with.”
The firm has also expanded its workshop with the addition of a new planer, advanced band saw, sash cramper and supplementary power tools. These investments aim to enhance workflow, improve safety and raise finish standards.
To complement the timber joinery, all windows and doors are coated with Remmers paint using Eco Sash & Case’s newly installed Wagner spray system, ensuring a smooth and long-lasting finish.
