New Initiative Bridges Consumer Brands and Chemical Industry to Tackle Sustainability Challenges

Last Updated on:

The Global Impact Coalition (GIC), a CEO-driven collaboration platform focused on delivering a net-zero and circular future for the chemicals sector, has unveiled a new initiative aimed at bringing consumer-facing companies on board as Value Chain Partners.

With mounting pressure across the chemical value chain to hit climate goals, enhance recyclability, and adopt circular practices, GIC recognises that genuine progress demands united action. Chemical manufacturers and consumer goods companies—who depend on chemicals for packaging and product ingredients—must collaborate more closely than ever.

“Reducing what is known as scope 3 carbon emissions will require a deeper integration of business models and ultimately, greater collaboration along the material and product value chain,” said Charlie Tan, CEO of the Global Impact Coalition. “We are putting out a strong call to action for global consumer goods companies to co-build the next generation of supplier-enabled solutions, along with the chemical industry.”

GIC invites consumer goods leaders to join a structured engagement with chemical suppliers, from ideation to tangible projects, designed to co-develop commercially scalable projects that reduce emissions, increase circularity, and enable safer chemical use.

“Collaboration of chemical companies with downstream partners such as consumer goods companies is essential to scale sustainable products and build viable business cases,” said Lars Kissau, President at BASF and member of the GIC Executive Committee. “This is not about talk. It’s about co-creating real solutions with the companies that rely on the chemical industry in all their products.”

Rather than producing position papers or advocacy roadmaps, GIC acts as a catalyst for practical action. The platform guides its members through a four-phase model—from jointly identifying problems to generating ideas, developing projects, and eventually spinning out scalable solutions. Ongoing projects include work on 100% circular waste systems, sustainable biomass sourcing, and PFAS elimination and destruction.

Through this initiative, consumer brands will have the chance to:

Help shape practical projects aligned with consumer sector demands

Pilot solutions alongside chemical suppliers and scale successful innovations

Join a global network focused on Scope 3 emissions, circular solutions, and “no harm” innovation

The programme is open to any global consumer goods business eager to collaborate with chemical suppliers to fast-track sustainability outcomes. Participation involves executive-level engagements, dedicated working groups, and biannual ideation forums.
