Surrey’s Summer Drama Workshops for Children with Autism and SEND Youth Led by BBC Actress

Head2Head Sensory Theatre is pleased to announce their upcoming series of creative and inclusive drama and musical theatre workshops for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Tandridge, Surrey. These workshops will take place at the brand new venue, The Barn Hub on Crowhurst Lane End near Oxted, and will be led by experienced facilitators.

The highlight of these workshops is a special three-day masterclass led by BBC actress Georgia de Gidlow, who plays Keedie in the acclaimed series A Kind of Spark. This exclusive Autism-friendly workshop, tailored for children aged 7+ on the autism spectrum, will take place from 11-13 August. Participants will have the opportunity to explore performance, storytelling, and character-building in a safe and sensory-aware environment.

Mel Booker, Workshop Coordinator, expressed her excitement about welcoming de Gidlow to the workshops, stating that her passion for accessible storytelling makes her an inspiring role model for young actors. Booker also emphasized how de Gidlow’s involvement aligns with the charity’s mission to empower young people with SEND through creative expression.

In addition to the masterclass, Head2Head will also offer two weeks of inclusive theatre fun, including the Musical Theatre Extravaganza from 28 July to 1 August and the Drama & Creativity Workshops from 26-29 August. These workshops will focus on building confidence, acting technique, and stage presence through various activities such as drama, dance, singing, and art. The workshops will culminate in a final-day performance that celebrates the creativity and growth of each participant.

Families interested in these workshops can take advantage of early bird discounts until 30 June 2025. The workshops are open to young people with SEND, and all activities will be delivered by experienced facilitators in a sensory-considerate and welcoming environment. One parent shared their experience of watching their child participate in the workshops, stating that it was incredibly moving to see their child’s joy and confidence. They also added that these workshops are more than just drama, but a space where their child truly belongs.

The workshops will take place at The Barn Hub, located in Crowhurst Lane End, Surrey. Families can book tickets now on the Head2Head Sensory Theatre website, with all proceeds going towards supporting the charity’s mission to provide accessible theatre for young people with SEND.
