UK Yoga Instructors Join Forces to Support Kolkata’s Street Children Prior to International Yoga Day

“Yoga for HOPE” Campaign Empowers Disadvantaged Children in India on International Day of Yoga

London, UK – In celebration of International Day of Yoga, yoga teachers from across the UK and beyond are joining forces to support some of India’s most vulnerable children through a nationwide campaign, “Yoga for HOPE.”

Throughout the month of June, yoga teachers will be hosting donation-based classes to raise funds for The Hope Foundation for Street Children (HOPE), a charity dedicated to protecting and empowering street-connected children and families in Kolkata, India. With a focus on education, healthcare, and child protection, HOPE has positively impacted over 3 million individuals since its establishment in 1999.

Lille Sommerschield, a yoga teacher from Oslo, Norway, will be hosting a unique “Wise Women” gathering in a tranquil Norwegian forest to support HOPE. “I was first introduced to The Hope Foundation through my teacher and good friend Simon Low many years ago,” shared Lille. “It has been an honor and privilege to support HOPE by hosting yoga classes from Norway and giving back to the people of India – a country that has shared the wonderful concept of yoga with the world.”

Simon Low, HOPE UK Patron and renowned yoga teacher, will lead an online fundraising class on June 22nd. Other teachers supporting the initiative include Jo Torode, Christina Gill, and Adelene Cheong. Jo Torode expressed, “HOPE is a truly amazing charity doing crucial work that not only changes but saves lives. It has been a joy and privilege to support their work through my teaching, both for myself and my students.”

Recognizing the vital role of yoga in physical, mental, and emotional well-being, HOPE was named Favourite Yoga Charity at the 2024 OM Yoga Awards. The charity incorporates regular yoga practice into the lives of children in its care.

HOPE is calling on more yoga teachers to join the campaign and give back to the country that gave the world yoga. To participate, visit https://www.thehopefoundation.org.uk/iyd/.
