Scottish Sovereignty Research Group to Host 3-Day Conference on Scotland’s Constitutional Position

The Scottish Constitutional Think Tank, Scottish Sovereignty Research Group (SSRG), is set to hold a 3-day conference from Friday, May 16th to Sunday, May 18th at the Carnegie Conference Centre in Dunfermline, Scotland. The conference will feature expert academics, lawyers, economists, and politicians as guest speakers and will cover a wide range of topics related to Scotland’s constitutional position.

One of the highlights of the conference will be the Saturday afternoon session titled “Decolonisation & Self Determination,” during which a legal opinion will be presented. This opinion is expected to cast serious doubt on the official constitutional understanding of the United Kingdom and argue that Scotland should qualify for the UN Decolonisation process, joining countries like India, Pakistan, Ghana, and Malaya.

The UK government has repeatedly refused to allow Scotland to hold a democratic referendum on whether to remain in a union with England, with both Theresa May and Boris Johnson stating that “now is not the time.” However, SSRG’s Director and Chairman David Henry disagrees, stating, “Now is the time” and questioning the notion of a voluntary union between Scotland and England when Scots are denied the right to vote on their future.

The conference, titled “The Next Steps,” is expected to draw hundreds of delegates from across Scotland to discuss and debate important policy areas, including whether Scotland has ever been in a voluntary union with England. This is the second 3-day conference hosted by SSRG, with the first being held in 2022 and described by The National as “groundbreaking.”

The conference will also feature Sara Salyers, co-founder of Liberation Scotland and Salvo, who will present on De-Colonisation. Salyers, who has amassed over 18,000 members, stated, “Following over 2 years of research and gathering expert advice and legal opinion, we are finally able to confidently make the case for Scotland to join the many independent countries that have been listed by the UN C24 Committee for Decolonisation.” She also emphasized that it is time for Scotland to demand its listing for decolonisation, rather than asking for permission.

The conference will be livestreamed on YouTube, with many overseas observers expected to join the conference delegates. For more information, please visit https://pressat.co.uk/.
