The battery-centric solution connects the PV array directly to the batteries for a lower cost and higher performing system
Multi Source Power (MSP), a leading innovator in Battery Energy Storage, and Ampt, the world’s #1 DC optimizer company for large-scale photovoltaic (PV) solar systems, today announced a successful collaboration resulting in an innovative DC-coupled PV-plus-storage solution. Combining MSP’s BESS with Ampt String Optimizers, the system meets growing demand for integrated PV-plus-storage with grid-forming capabilities across independent power networks in the UK, Europe, and international markets.
MSP’s Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are engineered to deliver efficient, flexible, and cost-effective energy solutions with a strong focus on safety and performance. The company’s modular Flex-ESS systems integrate energy storage with battery inverters to fit seamlessly into a wide range of applications.
MSP is now ramping up deployments of its storage system in combination with Ampt String Optimizers which allow the PV array to be DC-coupled to the Flex-ESS while maintaining advanced grid capabilities such as grid-forming and black start. This battery-centric DC-coupled approach is lower cost and higher performing than alternative designs such as AC-coupled systems.
Ampt String Optimizers are DC/DC converters that are deployed in the PV array and perform maximum power point tracking (MPPT) on each input string of PV modules to maximize production. The optimizers then deliver full available power while following the battery voltage as it charges and discharges. This key technology allows the PV array to connect directly to the Flex-ESS rather than through a separate inverter and transformer to minimize the system footprint and lower CAPEX.
“Our integrated DC-coupled solution makes it easier and faster for customers to address a wider range of applications, create new revenue streams, and maximize return on investments.”
“Ampt is pleased to partner with MSP and support the growing demand for their high-performance, modular BESS solution,” said Mary Adam, Vice President of Global Sales at Ampt. “We look forward to ongoing collaboration with MSP and their customers across the globe.”
Both companies will be at Intersolar Europe in Munich on 7-9 May. Contact MSP or Ampt to schedule a meeting. Visit Ampt in booth C5.151.
