XIMEA Launches Industry-Leading 245MP Camera with 4.1″ Sony IMX811 Sensor

Last Updated on:

XIMEA has announced the newest addition to its xiX-XL camera series: a cutting-edge 245.7 MPix camera, now the highest resolution model available featuring Sony’s 4.1-inch backside illuminated IMX811 sensor.

The MX2457 camera employs the ultra-fast PCIe interface to support real-time data handling—an essential requirement in high-performance imaging scenarios. Designed with precision and clarity in mind, Sony’s IMX811 sensor ensures this camera excels in tasks such as surface inspection, fine texture analysis, and geospatial mapping.

Key Features at a Glance:

Groundbreaking Image Resolution: Offering an extraordinary 245.7 MP (19200 x 12800) resolution, the MX2457 delivers sharp, high-fidelity imagery. It’s a perfect fit for top-tier applications like 3D terrain modelling and professional videogrammetry.

Advanced BSI Sensor Design: Utilising backside illumination, the sensor achieves a quantum efficiency exceeding 80%. This allows for superior performance in low-light conditions and enhances overall image quality.

High-Speed Interface: The camera transmits over 10 frames per second at full resolution using a 32 Gbit pipeline—vital for high-volume, time-critical operations across industry sectors.

Space-Saving Form Factor: Despite incorporating a large 64 mm diagonal sensor, the camera is housed in a compact body (approximately 80 mm square), ensuring easy system integration in space-constrained environments.

Efficient PCIe Gen 3 Connectivity: With direct memory access capabilities, the PCIe Gen 3 interface ensures near-zero latency and minimal processor demand, while also allowing for scalable multi-camera installations.

Detachable Sensor Head Advantage: A modular sensor head design provides greater installation flexibility and enhances image integrity by reducing heat at the sensor site—an essential consideration for sensitive imaging conditions.

Enhanced Cooling Choices: The standard cooling system includes a rear-mounted fan module. For even lower temperatures and vibration-free operation, a water-based cooling system can be fitted.

Flexible Lens Mount Options: Initial lens compatibility includes an M72 mechanical mount and an electronically controlled EF mount. Future upgrades will introduce active Hasselblad mounts, enabling full remote control over lens settings.
