Press Release:
Brighton, UK – International Animal Rescue (IAR) celebrates the 10th anniversary of its successful fundraising event, Cakes for Apes. The month-long campaign aims to raise funds for orangutan conservation efforts by encouraging people to bake and sell cakes.
The celebration kicked off on Saturday at Hotel Du Vin in Brighton, where almost 100 attendees enjoyed an afternoon tea hosted by TV Bake Off contestant Henry Bird and IAR. The event was filled with inspiration and reflection, with conservationists and special guests joining in to indulge in delicious cakes.
Since its launch in 2015, Cakes for Apes has brought together passionate bakers from around the world, raising close to £100k to support IAR’s crucial efforts. These funds have been instrumental in supporting the rescue, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and release of orangutans back into the wild in collaboration with their Indonesian partner YIARI.
Guests at the event were treated to an exclusive Afternoon Tea with a variety of cakes, scones, and finger sandwiches, all for a good cause. Esteemed guest speakers, including Henry Bird, President of IAR Alan Knight OBE, and CEO Gavin Bruce, delivered powerful talks to mark the occasion. Henry Bird shared his dual interests in baking and wildlife preservation, while Alan Knight and Gavin Bruce discussed global efforts to save and rehabilitate animals.
To show appreciation to their supporters, guests received exclusive Cakes for Apes goody bags, which also contained a handmade cupcake created by Henry Bird for each attendee.
The Afternoon Tea marked the beginning of the month-long “Ape-ril” campaign, encouraging supporters worldwide to organize their own bake sales and gatherings to support orangutan conservation efforts.
Alan Knight OBE, President of IAR, expressed his gratitude towards the community and their support, stating, “Celebrating 10 years of Cakes for Apes shows the power of community when they come together. With their support, we have rehabilitated and released over 170 orangutans, and more recently, we’ve witnessed five live births in the wild, which is remarkable. The support and dedication from our community members have been truly motivational, and it was great to honor this occasion together.”
IAR extends its sincere thanks to all its supporters and encourages others to join in and make a difference by hosting their own cake sales. More information can be found at www.cakes4apes.org.
Together, we can bring about meaningful change, one cake at a time!
