Pi School and Imperative Space have announced the development of EVE, Earth Virtual Expert, a cutting-edge Large Language Model with expertise in Earth Observation (EO) and Earth Sciences. This project has received a generous €1 million budget from the European Space Agency’s Φ-lab and is set to revolutionize data-driven insights for science, the environment, and society.
EVE is a digital AI expert developed by Pi School in collaboration with Imperative Space, capable of answering complex Earth Sciences questions using reliable data and natural language. It is part of the ESA Φ-lab #AI4EO initiative, which aims to bridge the gap between AI and EO.
Isabelle Andrieu, CEO at Pi School, believes that AI has the potential to transform our understanding of the planet. She stated, “This collaboration marks a significant milestone in bridging AI and EO.” Andrieu also expressed excitement about EVE’s potential to make insights more accessible and impactful, ensuring that Earth Observation knowledge is available to everyone.
Nicolas Longépé, Earth Observation Data Scientist at ESA Φ-lab and the leader of the EVE project, also shared his enthusiasm for the collaboration. “Pi School’s expertise in AI development, combined with our vision for the future of Earth Observation, makes this collaboration a powerful step towards building innovative solutions that will enhance global access to critical EO knowledge,” he said.
The project will include a user-friendly web platform and an API for development applications, making it easily accessible for researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals. The long-term goal of ESA Φ-lab is to develop an EO digital assistant, providing accurate information about Earth Observation topics worldwide.
The EVE pilot version will be unveiled in June, and Pi School invites interested parties to be among the first to experience the power of EVE. Lucia Bracci, Pi School’s Communication Manager, can be contacted for media inquiries at lucia.bracci@picampus-school.com or 392.9939476.
Pi School was founded in 2017 by Translated, a global leader in language technology solutions, to address the shortage of skilled AI professionals. Their flagship program, the Pi School of AI, equips top scientists and engineers with advanced AI skills through an intensive eight-week program. So far, Pi School has trained over 230 AI experts and developed more than 100 MVPs for clients, including Amazon, Meta, ESA, and the European Commission.
The European Space Agency (ESA) is an intergovernmental organization with the mission to shape the development of Europe’s space capability and ensure that investment in space delivers benefits to the citizens of Europe and the world.
ESA Φ-lab, a division of ESA, focuses on accelerating the future of Earth Observation (EO) through disruptive and transformational innovation. They aim to strengthen the European EO industrial and scientific sectors’ world-leading competitiveness.
