Age Concern Hampshire Commences 40th Anniversary Year with a Double Ruby Celebration

Age Concern Hampshire, a charity dedicated to serving older adults in Hampshire, celebrated its 40th anniversary at their Hospital to Home service launch event at Petersfield Hospital on Thursday 20 February, 2025. The event was made even more special by the presence of Ruby, a patient of the service, who also celebrated her 100th birthday, perfectly aligning with the ‘Ruby’ theme of the anniversary. This momentous occasion highlighted the invaluable support provided by Age Concern Hampshire in ensuring older people receive the care and assistance they need.

Working in partnership with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, the Hospital to Home service focuses on actively engaging with patients during their hospital stay. The service offers tailored support and guidance to ensure a smooth, safe, and timely discharge from the wards to their homes. By addressing individual needs and coordinating essential care, the service aims to reduce hospital readmissions and help older adults regain their independence with confidence and security.

In the coming year, Age Concern Hampshire will be hosting a range of events to bring together service users, volunteers, supporters, and the wider community. These events will include fundraising activities, awareness campaigns, and celebratory gatherings to recognize the contributions of those who have helped the charity thrive over the past four decades.

Brogan Rehill, Head of Fundraising & Volunteering at Age Concern Hampshire, spoke about the charity’s milestone, stating, “As we mark 40 years of supporting older people in Hampshire, we take great pride in the positive impact we have made through our services, including Hospital to Home. Our Ruby Anniversary is more than just a reflection on our history—it is an opportunity to engage with our community, celebrate our achievements, and reinforce our commitment to enhancing the lives of older people.”

Established in 1985, Age Concern Hampshire currently provides services to the older community of Hampshire. The charity offers support at their Care & Wellbeing centres throughout the county, as well as Foot Care clinics, Help at Home, Information via their Information Hub, Hospital to Home Services, Community Information Volunteer Services, and a variety of other activities.
